Help General Instructions

This guide will help you upgrade from an old version of "Chicken Invaders: Cluck of the Dark Side" to the current version. Upgrading is automatically performed when the new version is installed on top of an existing installation.

Upgrading will allow you to keep your existing profile data when installing a newer version of the game. Your profile consists of several different kinds of data, and not everything will be upgraded:

Career
Career data will be upgraded fully.
High scores
The high score table will not be upgraded. If you have any new scores that you haven't uploaded yet, then submit them using your old version before upgrading.
Mission data
Mission data will not be upgraded. If you have a mission in progress, then complete it first before upgrading.
Game options
Game settings (anything you have changed within the "Options" menu) will not be upgraded.

Help Getting ready to upgrade

In order to determine whether your particular installation of the game can be successfully upgraded, go through the following checklist:

  1. You must have the registered version. Demo versions cannot be upgraded.
  2. You must have an InterAction studios "pack" version (i.e., purchased directly from this site). If you've purchased the game on any other site, upgrading won't work.
  3. Standard, Christmas, etc. editions are upgraded separately. You cannot upgrade from a Standard to a Christmas Edition or vice versa.

Help Upgrading

First of all, we recommend you back up your existing profile data. To back up your data, you need to make a copy of the folder "InterAction studios" which is located in the "common application data" folder. The exact location depends on your Windows version (and language). In Windows XP, it's in "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\InterAction studios". In Windows Vista/7/8, it's in "C:\ProgramData\InterAction studios". Note that some of these are system folders which might be hidden, so you'll need to set your Windows Explorer settings to display hidden files.

Once you find the correct folder, you need to copy all files found there to a separate location on your hard disk drive. Make sure you copy (Copy and Paste) and not move (Cut and Paste) them by mistake. If the upgrade process fails, you can revert to your old version by simply copying the backup files onto the original files (overwriting them). Again, make sure you copy (not move) them.

Now you can install the new version. Use your existing authorization code to download the installer file from your account. That's all you need to do, just launch the new game and your data should be there.
